Clay 04:25
I bury my hatchet I never could stand the sight of blood And mutter "my god what were we thinking of?" Don't give me that attitude You never get out of it intact I wonder what happened to our self respect Our self-respect... We build our chicken wire Mould the clay around An object of desire Just a puppet clown I've given up cigarettes I've given up missing sex I'm not your clay I'm not your clay

Outside this dark Eden There are bars to hang your hopes on Down in my hung garden There are thorns to crown your passion See no guarantees can you forget? All you need is all you're going to get Johnny bets and sweats and loses Buys her clothes to hide the bruises Wakes in purgatory Can he forget How she nearly tried to end it? Born to reap bad honey... Outside this dark Eden There are bars to drown your hopes in Down in my soul searching There are shards to cut me open Stir my memory should I forget? All you see is all you're going to get Born to reap bad honey... You twist, you shake And when it comes apart you break you twist, you shake And when it comes apart you break Outside this dark Eden.

about

After enjoying a modicum of critical acclaim and releasing three e.p.'s and album on Better Than Life and Kitchenware Records in the early nineties, Hug split up in 1994. They reformed in 2011 after unearthing their last demos, which suggested they may actually have been at their creative peak when they called it a day. A plan was hatched to return to the studio and record these songs properly with drummer, Dave Curle at the helm. Dave has spent the intervening years building a solid reputation as a sound engineer / producer at First Avenue, working with the Futureheads, Lauren Laverne, Moz Eisley and Maximo Park.

In March 2012, Hug returned to the studio to breathe new life into Clay, Kingdom Come and This Dark Eden. Guitarist, percussionist and Japanese-rapper, Ken Sakamoto, who now lives in Tokyo, returned to the UK in June and added his guitar parts. The results mean that these songs (perhaps HUG's finest), are finally rendered how they are intended to sound.
